Marriage – praying for your marriage is vital for survival.
Recently God laid on my heart a burden to pray for marriages. My marriage, your marriage, all marriages.
He taught me the true meaning of marriage. When we are married to one another in the presence of God, we not only become one with our spouse but we also become one with Christ in our marriage. For far too many years in my own marriage, we did not have Christ as the center of our marriage. I now have 20/20 vision in hindsight:-) and can see the tremendous difference having Christ in our marriage and not having Him there makes. I must share what God taught me. I sincerely hope that you feel compelled to not only read these words but to also share these words with your spouse, your family and your friends.
It is a life-changer that we cannot miss.
Today, if you are reading this message, do not be dismayed if your marriage is not where you want it to be. Do not fear. For God is there. He is strengthening you and helping you. He is upholding you with His righteous right hand.
These words in Isaiah need to be written down and carried with us. They need to be written and taped all over our house. On our refrigerators, our mirrors, our desks.
Literally surround yourself with the Word of God.
Marriage is wonderful at times. Marriage is hell at times. Marriage is indifferent at times. Marriage is hopeless at times. But there is always hope in Christ. And hope in Christ does not disappoint. When we bring Jesus into the forefront of our lives, the very core of our existence, things shift and change.
How do you get there?
The change needs to happen in your own heart first before you can see the manifestation of Jesus in your marriage. Get before God and be absolutely honest. Pour out your hurts, your failures, your guilt, your shame. Pour it all out to Him. He knows it all anyway and He so desperately wants to take it from you. He did not make us to bear the weight of the world. As a matter of fact, He doesn’t want us to bear ANY of the weight. He wants to take it all. Jesus tells us that His yoke is easy and light.
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.
Get before Him and be raw. Get before Him and show Him your heart. Give Him your heart. He will perform open-heart surgery on you. Let Him. It will be the most wonderful change in your life. It will hurt at times but the pain is so worth it. He creates in us pure hearts and renews steadfast spirits within us. He does all the work when we give Him access and when we get before Him in true humility.
You’ll notice things that were once acceptable to you are no longer acceptable. You’ll notice you feel bad about doing or saying things that at one time didn’t bother you. It is the Holy Spirit inside of you convicting you of your former life. He will purge and burn away your former person.
He will make you a new creation in Christ.
Not only will you notice but everyone around you will notice the change as well. Some who notice the change in you will pull away. Others who notice the change in you will draw nearer. Even though it’s painful to lose some friends, it’s necessary to grow in who Christ created you to be. It’s necessary for you to grow and be spiritually healthy.
It may take time but your spouse will also notice a difference. It might not be well received at first but trust in God. He has it. He has it all in His righteous right hand.
Pray for your spouse. Pray for your marriage.
Pray earnestly and pray often. Pray for God to show Himself to your spouse every day. Pray for God to reveal Himself in your marriage. He will do so. He is so good and loving. He wants us to walk in the power and authority that Jesus died to give to us. He wants us to walk as spiritually healthy children. We are heirs to the kingdom. We are children of the Most High God. We are in Him and He is in us. We are protected from the inside out. He wants our marriages to reflect who we are in Him.
Get the words of Isaiah 41:10 in your heart. Stand in faith on these words.
He will always make a way – even when there seems to be no way.
He conquered the grave. He conquered death.
Do you think that your marriage is too big for Him?
Nothing is too big for our God. He is the great I AM. He will never lead us wrong. He will never set us up for failure. Never.
Stay humble. Stay before Him on your knees. Lean into Him for your strength. Let Him bear the weight of the burdens you carry. Let Him fix your marriage. Simply rest in His presence and pray.
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Seek Him first and all else will follow.
Seek Him and let Him handle the rest.
Recently, in prayer, I felt the Lord speak these words to me – storms, rib cage and gold – which is what led me to write this post.
We all go through storms in our marriages. But we need to know that God works good in all situations ~ even the storms. I know from personal experience. My husband and I have been through some fierce storms in our 24 year marriage. There were some very dark times.
We turned to God to fix our marriage.
We eventually turned to God and it was the most freeing thing we ever did to strengthen our marriage. My husband and I now have Jesus Christ at the very center of our marriage and there is an abundance of light in our home.
This doesn’t mean that we still don’t experience storms. We do. But because Jesus is there with us we deal better with the storms that life throws at us. And because Jesus is there, we are stronger DESPITE the storms. If I had the power to do so, I’m not sure that I would remove the storms in our past. These storms made us who we are in Christ. It is very tough when you are walking through that darkness but TRUST IN GOD to see you through.
He made woman for man out of man’s rib cage.
Women were created because God said that it was not good for man to be alone. This is still true. We need one another as much as we need Christ. When we are humble and acknowledge this need in one another and in God, we can experience the gold in our marriage. Gold is pure. Gold is not subject to corrosion. Gold is precious. This is what God wants for our marriages. With God, all things are possible. Even the most dire of situations can be turned around.
What’s stopping you from getting on your knees right now?
Here is my prayer for our marriages.
Thank You for Jesus Christ, our all-in-all. Father, we ask that You make Jesus the very core of our foundation individually and as a married man and wife in Your presence. We ask that Jesus become the Rock in our marriage. We ask that He help us weather all storms. Help us to be respectful of one another and to put one another first before ourselves. Help us to lower ourselves in humility to not think more highly of ourselves than we should. Help us to remember Your Son Jesus at all times and to glorify Jesus in our marriage. Let us lay down all personal agendas we may have.
Holy Spirit, quickly convict us when we do wrong against one another and against Jesus. Holy Spirit, comfort us in love and perform open-heart surgery on our hearts to remove all the impurities of the world – all the offenses, hurts, unforgiveness, guilt, shame that we’ve allowed to accumulate over the years. Create in each of us pure hearts and renew steadfast spirits within us. Help us to see Jesus in one another and to share Jesus with everyone. In His holy and precious name we pray.
Stay in the Light and the Love always,
