Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with God’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited. Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.
These verses contain such good instruction for every one of us. Life is all about choices. Our choices start with thoughts that soon become actions. We need to stay close to the Word and know how God wants us to live our lives. The only way to do this is to read the Bible every day. It has to be a daily choice! And if you make that choice, you will never regret one single minute of the time you spend with God and His Word. The Bible contains instruction for every single situation we will ever find ourselves in. It’s the most powerful “How To” book in all of our houses but very few of us pick it up.
Will we slip and make mistakes? Absolutely! But we need to be able to learn from our mistake and move on. If we stay tuned in to God, our mistakes become fewer and less substantial. I’ll leave you with this verse:
And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is at work in you who believe.
