“Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.”
Peter was tired from fishing all night but he did as Jesus asked. You know what happened next? Jesus blessed Peter with the greatest catch of his life.
Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink. When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!” For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken, and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon’s partners. Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will catch men.” So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.
Simon Peter immediately left behind his old life and followed Jesus. That’s what Jesus asks us to do for Him too. Unfortunately, it sounds painful to many and they choose the world instead of what Jesus is offering. If they only knew that the blessings of Jesus outweigh anything this world has to offer, they would immediately pounce on Jesus’ offer.
My youngest son had surgery this week. This was a first for us and it was very scary until I realized that Jesus was right there with us all the time. I love my son with all my heart BUT Jesus loves him even more. That settled my heart. I knew that He would be with my son the entire time. What a blessing to have peace of mind in the midst of a storm. That’s just one of many blessings that I have personally received from Jesus and I know it’s just one of many more to come.
What would you do if Jesus asked you personally, face-to-face, to leave your old life behind and follow Him? I hope, dear friend, that you would follow Him. As He told Peter and many many others in the Bible, “Don’t be afraid.”
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”
