Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God— the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures regarding his Son, who as to his earthly life was a descendant of David, and who through the Spirit of holiness was appointed the Son of God in power by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord. Through him we received grace and apostleship to call all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith for his name’s sake. And you also are among those Gentiles who are called to belong to Jesus Christ.
To all in Rome who are loved by God and called to be his holy people:
Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
Paul was the greatest missionary of all times after he became an apostle of God. Paul and the early disciples knew the importance the Holy Spirit played in their lives. Paul tells us in these first few verses of Romans that it was the Holy Spirit who appointed Jesus Christ the Son of God. The Holy Spirit is the power behind Jesus. He is the power who resurrected Jesus from the grave. We’re given that same power because we’re given the Holy Spirit. God’s love for us is so awesome. He knows we are incapable of being anything other than the sinners that we are. So He gave us the two people who are the most treasured in His eyes – His precious Son and His Holy Spirit. He gave them both to us. We all know and thank God for the gift of His Son but how often do we stop and thank Him for the powerful gift of His Spirit? The Holy Spirit is an individual person and He is part of the Trinity. We need to start speaking to this very important person today. After all, He is our very own personal Counselor and Advocate!
