10 Truths & Prayers To Show Us Our Identity in Christ Jesus
Are you walking in the full power that we’ve been given? Do you know your identity? Are there things holding you back from being bold for Christ? To be completely fair and honest with you, I’m not sure how well I would answer these questions myself. But I am intent on doing a better job today than I did yesterday and an even better job tomorrow. I am not content to be stagnant in my faith walk and I suspect that you are not either or you probably would not be reading this article.
God has each of us. Don’t ever doubt this truth. We are His and He is ours. It is so important for us to know our identity in Christ Jesus to protect our walk. If we do not know our identity, we are susceptible to the enemy’s lies. We must know how good God is all the time. He is love and He is light. In Him darkness cannot live.
Let’s dig into some Scripture that will help us know exactly who we are in Christ Jesus.
1. We are loved by the Most High God!
For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. John 3:16-17
We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them. And as we live in God, our love grows more perfect. So we will not be afraid on the day of judgment, but we can face him with confidence because we live like Jesus here in this world. Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. 1 John 4:16-18
Dear God, Thank You for Your great love for us. Help us to think about this great love when we lie down at night and when we get up in the morning. Help us to remember it always. Let us walk in this love and become this love to the world. All of You in all of us is necessary for us to truly portray Your perfect love. Each day take us deeper into that love.
2. We are born again.
In reply Jesus declared, “I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.” John 3:3
Dear God, Thank You for breathing the Holy Spirit in us when You baptized us. Show us Your Kingdom. We are baptized in the Spirit so that we have the power and authority to walk as Jesus walked. In Him we are able to do greater things than He did. Let this truth sink deep in our hearts so we can stand boldly and perform miracles in the name of Jesus Christ. Thank You for making us more and more like Jesus. Help us to walk in true humility and love for one another.
3. We are new creations in Christ.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! 2 Corinthians 5:17
Dear God, Thank You for making us new creations!! The old life is no longer. You have forgiven us of all our sins and You have so graciously forgotten those sins. Help us to not keep a record of our own sins or the sins of others. Help us to truly wipe the slate clean in our thinking so that we do not condemn ourselves for we know that there is no condemnation in Christ Jesus. Thank You for this new life that we have.
4. We are ambassadors. We are not citizens of this world.
We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. 2 Corinthians 5:20
Dear Father, we take our role as ambassadors for Christ very seriously. Show us each day where You wish us to be. Open our eyes to see those around us that we need to love. Fill our mouth with Your words that will touch hearts and change lives and reconcile souls to You. Use us mightily in Your Kingdom.
5. We are holy and blameless.
For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. Ephesians 1:4
Dear God, Thank You for choosing us before the creation of the world! Thank You for never letting go of us, even when we did not know You were there. Thank you for seeking us even when we thought we were seeking You. We will live the holy and blameless lives we’re called to live in Christ Jesus.
6. We are God’s work of art.
For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10
Dear Father, Thank You for making us beautiful and whole. When we look in a mirror, help us to see ourselves exactly as You see us. Give us a new and fresh perspective on who we truly are in Your eyes. Let us see others through Your eyes as well. Thank You for all of the gifts and talents that You’ve given to each of us. Bring forth those gifts and talents to do the good works which You Yourself prepared in advance for us to do. Help us to encourage one another to be the best that we can be through love and motivation and prayer.
7. We are free.
In him you were also circumcised, in the putting off of the sinful nature, not with a circumcision done by the hands of men but with the circumcision done by Christ, having been buried with him in baptism and raised with him through your faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead. Colossians 2:11-12
Dear God, Thank You for setting us free. We were raised from the dead with Christ Jesus into a new creation. Help us to set the captives free and to release the prisoners. We ask for revelation and discernment to see those around us who are being held in bondage so that we can set them free. Give us ears to hear the heart cries of the wounded souls in our own backyard. Empower us to share Christ through our own personal testimonies to set the captives free. For we know that our testimonies are what will bring people to Christ. Help each of us to be transparent and free of fear as we share.
8. We are disciples. We are called to be students of the Word.
To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:31-32
Dear Holy Spirit, Thank You for teaching us Your Word. Continue to guide us and show us things in Your Word that we do not know. Bring it alive before our very eyes. Continue to give us revelation and insight into the deeper things of You. Thank You for bringing teachers and mentors into our lives. Help us to be good and eager students. Let Your Word become our greatest treasure and Jesus our greatest delight.
9. We are apostles. We are called to be teachers of the Word.
He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.” Mark 16:15
Dear God, Thank You for giving us the Great Commission. Thank You for equipping us with everything that we need to go into the world to preach the good news of Jesus Christ. Let each of us proclaim it boldly and often. Use us to teach Your Word. Bring people to us who need to learn what we are able to teach. You fit Your people together so perfectly like a puzzle. Each of us are a very important piece of the puzzle to make it complete.
10. We are members of Christ’s Body, the Church.
“for we are members of his body. For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.” This is a profound mystery – but I am talking about Christ and the church. Ephesians 5:29-30
Dear Father, Thank You for Jesus Christ – our Body! Father, thank You for releasing us from our own bondage and baggage. Help us to walk as free men and women for Christ so that we do not make the Body lame. We each have an important role in the Body. Help us to build one another up in Christ so that we can effectively reach those who are in darkness.
As we lie down at night, let us be aware of our identity. When we get up in the morning, let us be aware of our identity. Use us to show others their identity in Christ Jesus to set them free. Thank You for Jesus! All this we ask in His precious and holy name.
Believe in all of these truths. Repeat them to yourself daily until You know how truly beautiful you are to God. You are beautiful, perfect and loved.
Stay in the Light and the Love Always,
